Does BSD use /etc/ethers ? Other OSs use it to make sure that no machine
does contact with an illegal IP address (if IP address and ethernet address
are not the same found in /etc/ethers).

Ok, ethernet addresses can be modified, but it's not so easy if you haven't
got the software to do it.
