As far as I know Sun has bought the full rights to their ATT/USL Unix
code parts from Novell for a onetime sum - I understand this to mean
that they are *not* paying royalties to Novell any more. Anybody care
to confirm or deny this?

Well, I run Solaris 2.3 on my LX at work, and it works fairly well.
Mind you, I think a well-patched 4.1.3 works even better - but urging
Sun to dump Solaris 2.x is of no use. Solaris 2.x is here to stay,
whether you like it or not.

Yes, we're also buying new SS-5s with 4.1.3_U1. I don't really believe
Sun's figures for how many people are running Solaris 2 (as in: Sun may
well have sold that many Solaris 2 licenses, but a lot of those people
are still running 4.1.x on the machines they have Solaris 2 licenses
for).

But I still believe Solaris 2.x is here to stay...
