I was running Linux (0.91 or earlier) well before 386bsd 0.0 was available. It may have been described in the Dr. Dobb's articles but wasn't available on the 'Net until well after working versions of Linux were out. Ask Chris D (the agate 386bsd ftp site maintainer) when the source and binaries became available then ask Linus when the first fully usable Linux releases with bootable floppy images became available. A kernel on a bootable floppy with most of the commands in /bin & /usr/bin was out in early to mid '91 as I recall. Looking at some of my records for 386bsd {0.0,0.1} it didn't appear until '92.
