| 386BSD Release 1.0 SHIPS |
\---------------------------------------/
The official word comes from Mr. Stan Barnes, Director of
Special Projects for Doctor Dobbs Journal and Miller Freeman, Inc.
"It shipped November 4 and we are currently filling all back
orders", states Stan.
386BSD, a Public Domain BSD-UNIX-like Operating System, has
been over four years in the making. Late in deliver, 386BSD
previously caused a "wild fire" on the Internet when researchers
and commercial developers, a like, scoured FTP sites for a version
of this OS (Operating System). Today 386BSD is one among many
PDOSs (Public Domain Operating Systems) that are providing fire
to developers wishing to explore new technology.
The authors, William and Lynn Jolitz - working in quiet
seclusion, have preferred to stay clear of political rabble rousing
stating that their offering is soley intended as an "educational
and research tool". None the less, other PDOSs have come forth
to provide additional incentives for developers and researchers in
hope that the technology necessary for future Open Systems is
still available.
