Am >I an idiot for even considering such a new product? > I have run compatability tests on a number of motherboards and use these test to market such boards. The boards go through an exhaustive s/w and h/w compatability test - the results of which are used for feedback to the designers and determination if our company is to market them. The Gigabyte motherboard in my personnel view is better than the Intel motherboard in certain aspects. I have run FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris on them and think the world of there boards. The Gigabyte board has room for 512k of 15ns cache - Intel 256k 20ns. The Gigabyte board has 4 PCI bus masters - Intel 3. The Gigabyte can use a PCI IDE-I/O - the Intel cannot. The Gigabyte has no controllers onboard - The Intel has IDE-I/O. The Gigabyte Award/NCR BIOS is great and very compatable. The Gigabyte board has 6 SIMM Sockets - The Intel 4. They both are six layers / SMT / Neptune / ZIF 5 / Flash BIOS / RTC.... The NCR SCSI works - i.e. Solaris/FreeBSD..... Any Questions efarris@digital.net ANC
