	1) Which kernel tunable files do I need to modify ? My
	familiar /etc/conf/<stuff>.d/ directory doesn't exist.

1. cd /sys/i386/conf
2. cp GENERIC MYKERNEL
3. vi MYKERNEL [tweak to taste]
4. config MYKERNEL
5. cd ../../compile/MYKERNEL
6. make all install
7. reboot

No /dev entries should need to be made.

don't exist as well. I'm downloading the source dists.
Do I need to get all the source distribution to recompile
	the kernel ?

For now, unfortunately yes.

   4) The DEC machine of course has the DEC depca ethernet
adapter. Is there any support for this card at all ?

Yes, look at the le0 driver.

   5) Just how badly will my 3c509 behave on the system ?

It may throw the occasional tantrum, rave incoherently, drink too much
and be an embarassment in public, but other than that... :-)

having the source dists yet, it doesn't appear on
my system. Is any kind of NFS a no-no ?

No.

Now if I can just find motif... (tvm gotta go.)

Check the FAQ for information on where to buy it from..
