Not to fault Poul here, but that 'default DES based crap' is what is
used on hundreds of machines locally.  Being compatible with those
machines is part of the reason BSD is still alive and kicking.

Different isn't always better, that's what FreeBSD still runs primarily
on those 'not so much better' but 'compatible' x86 PC's. :-)
