hello,

i just got a gateway 2000 with the STB 864 (S3) pci local bus video and
2megs of memory along with a gateway vivitron 1776 monitor with power
saving options. i installed XFree86 using the S3 driver, but when i run
X, it seems to load ok, but my monitor blanks out (shuts off
automatically since nothing is coming to the screen). when i break out
of X with ctrl-alt-bkspc, the monitor switches back on but the screen is
still blank. i then have to reboot to get a screen back. has anyone
gotten X to work with the gateway hardware?

by the way, i compiled the kernel with the X options that you need. here
is my Xconfig file:
