: First of all, Linux is not a brand name.. There are at least 3 or 4 different
: linux out there.. (ie. Slackware). That's like saying dos is a brand name.
: dos itself isn't.. MSDos is.. IBMdos is.. etc..
And using the same logic, one could say don't use unix because there are so many
brands of unix (AT&T style, BSD and so on).
Generalizing even furter don't use computers because there are so many type of
computers.
One step further don't get involved with people because there a so many kind of
people (programmers' song: No woman, No Cray)
Don't use the earth because there are so many planets.
Don't travel in the universe because there could be so many universes
Don't pray, because there could be more than one God.

So I think that this is the most ridiculeous argument ever heard.

: I think what Tim meant is that it is not a commercial package for the most
: part.
So who cares? I think and my experiences are that signaling a bug and getting
a stable fix for it is then just a couple of days instead of years.
So all those commercial companies should pay attention to their service attitude
Hobbyists are more devoted and have a more long time vision than the short term
policy (next months financial figures) of a bussiness.
: My opinion is that Slackware (being my choice of linux) is fine for running
: email. Is it a huge company? I use slackware now to run our WWW server and
: gopher server. I've also had LESS problems setting slackware email than
: getting email to work on our AIX server, not to mention that Slackware is free.
: Why spend big $$$$ on a unix system when the ONLY thing it is going to be
: used for is email? Maybe you can find some other uses for it as well
: anyways..
Hear hear
: As for service/support.. you can buy a commercial linux and get it.. or just
: subscribe to linux newsgroups where people can help you out.

True true true

I don't want to flame, but some times I can't resist the joy of the reply button.
