This makes it a hassle (and a little : >tricky) to swap modems between FreeBSD-2.0A and other systems. : Hmm, I have the exact opposite experience. I'm logged in from home on a : Intel Faxmodem internal that I plugged in to my PC and did nothing else : of consequence on. I'm connecting to /dev/cua02 if that mater. : BTW - I'm using the kermit package from the ALPHA release. Interesting. I have tried it with two different modems that I moved over from a system where I've used them unaltered for both LINUX and DOS. One modem is a Hayes Optima 144, and the other is a Microcom FAST 28.8. I'll have to try the kermit package, although I'm not sure that will help me since my primary need for using the modem at this time is to do PPP. For that I use 'cu' to establish the connection, or if I'm doing it automagically I use the "chat" program that comes with the PPP package. Both 'cu' and 'chat' failed to communicate with my modems until I set CD high. -bill -- Bill Heiser: bill@bh.org http://www.bh.org/ PGP public key available upon request.
