So where do those of us who ran out and bought a sound card look
for configuration information?

Actually, is there a generic way to figure out what you are supposed
to say in our conf file to get something built into the kernel, say
by looking at the files.xxx files?  Ive scanned the 4.4smm, but I didn't
see any generic advice, especially for 386 platforms...
