NetBSD-1.0/i386 doesn't use config.new, it uses config.
You only use config.new for NetBSD-current post-1.0, or with
NetBSD-1.0 on architectures other than Intel.
(And the loooooong article didn't agree with my modem-based PPP link
very well, either.)
