Let's see, what have you done for UNIX? Pray, do tell. Linux is not only the kernel but a whole 'milieu' of innovating software development. Here is a brief list of some of the Linux goodies I particularly like: -lilo -free dosemu, with source code -compressed kernel images uncompressed on bootup -svgalib, with a GL which supports multi buffered animation -SCSI cluster patches -loadable kernel modules -WINE (started out as a Linux project, by Peter McDonald) -2 sets of networking code, supporting hundreds of cards (Donald Becker) -the DLL tools which are so easy to use, anyone can build a shared library -high performance filesystem code, and 3 new filesystems from scratch -support for DOS filesystem, SYSV filesystem -filesystem defragmenter (defrag) -filesystem editor (lde) -direct port access from user space using the iopl(2) calls -flawless switching between graphics and text consoles -runs DOOM, zgv, povray, mgetty, sysvinit Cheers, Laszlo Herczeg *** Ask me about the Toronto Linux Users Group ***
