I have just started using FreeBSD. Previously I have been using Linux
(the Dark Side of the Force!). Having installed FreeBSD 2.0 I have
come across two "problems" related to the console driver:

1) How can I make the ALT key be a Meta key for Emacs? I have tried
fiddling with my keymap and using kbdcontrol -l. I have succeded in
getting M-b and M-f to work under Bash, but they (and M-x) do not work
at all in Emacs. Surely someone must have done this already!? I am
using the Emacs binarys from .../packages.

2) How can I test a keymap without screwing my system if I make a typo
in the file?

3) At the moment syslog messages seem to go to all virtual terminals
that I am logged into, or sometimes I get a message repeated three
times in a row, presumably because I am logged in more than once (as
root). How can I change this? How can I arrange for all system
messages to go to an unused VT? What stops me switching to a VT
unless a getty is running on it?

I can't find this information if the FAQ, so I hope someone can help. Thanks!
