This isn't the place to discuss differences in philosophy between BSD and Linux distributions. However since the Linux community wants to encourage commercial software, I'd like to make sure that no one is misled by statements like this: the key players in Linux are not "GPL fanatics". A good deal of software in Linux is covered by the GPL, but there are specific provisions (including a supplementary clause in the kernel license, and care in implementing libc) to make sure that it is possible to do commercial software. Real GPL fanatics consider that "software hoarding" and want to stop it. Specific questions about what is and isn't possible should be dealt with in the Linux newsgroups. -- this is a signature
