The Adaptec is a better performer than the Future Domain anyhow, > why not just get an Adaptec that works? > This is *EXACTLY* what I did. I got an Adaptec 2842 & I am quite pleased with it... I'm a 15 year Apple veteran (5 yr. ][+, 10 yr. mac), but a unix newbie, and one of the things <gravely> missing is the hardware plug-n-play. I realize that many people have machines and are putting FreeBSD on existing systems, HOWEVER, I do believe people who want to set up a stable UNIX box from scratch would GREATLY benefit from a FAQ that would describe HIGHLY STABLE systems, something like: SMALL: 386, 8 meg ram, 100 meg hd, adaptec 1542 MED: 486, 16 meg ram, 500 meg hd, adaptec 2842, SMC elite 16 enet LARGE: etc.. where you can give actual part numbers & mfgs' of hardware that MANY FreeBSD'rs have got up & running WITH MINIMAL TWEAKING. <whew> now all I gotta do is get uucp going...... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Roy Lovejoy PHONE: 619.727.6825 INET:roy@AdeptSolutions.com Pixel PooBah FAX: 619.727.5869 ALINK: ............. adept Adept Solutions PTALK CIS: ........ 72447,1447 524 Avenida Verde DD: 619.598.5225 eWorld: ........ adeptsolns San Marcos CA 92069 AOL: ........ adeptsolns ---------------------------------------------------------------------
