Here's the scoop: I have 2 IDE drives, drive 0 is allocated to DOS, drive 1 is partitioned in two: a 50 MB primary DOS partition and a 184 MB extended partition for FreeBSD. I setup my drives as follows: Disks Total FreeBSD 0: wd0 119MB 0MB 1: wd1 234MB 184MB Filesystem Type Size Action Mountpoint 1: wd1a ufs 20MB newfs / 2: wd1b swap 16MB swap swap 3: wd1e ufs 148MB newfs /usr As per the instructions in the Troubleshooting doc, I wrote the MBR bootcode to drive wd0. Up to this point everything works fine, the installation procedure merrily sets everything up. The system boots from wd0, I specify "hd(1,a)/kernel" as the system to boot from. At this point the first message to appear is: booting wd(0,a)/kernel (is this a sign of a problem?) then the kernel boots, whole bunch of messages appear... finally the following messages appear: wd0: changing size of "d" partition frm 243474 to 243712 panic: cannot mount root The system then proceeds to reboot, I never get to the point where I am prompted for the cpio floppy. HELP!! By the way, the Disklabel info doesn't seem to be permanently recorded, when I retried the installation, the Filesystem info and mountpoints do not appear on the Disk Editor Screen. I think I'm using the December 14th boot floppy... Any help would be appreciated... Oh! I am having problems with my mail account, please post to the newsgroup or I will not be able to get your replies (running for my fire proof clothes!!) Thanks, Ivan
