There may or may now be an ultimate evolution of an operating system.
But a graphical user interface? That may be good for graphic oriented
tasks such as cad cam or WYSIWYG word processors, but I have noticed that
most computing professionals prefer to use the command line, be it dos,
*nix, or even OS/400. Notice that *nix with Graphical Interfaces, OS/2,
and Windows NT have not taken off in the mass market. My opinion is that
these more "complete" operating systems (as compared to dos and Windows
3.1) are becoming too complicated and intimidating for the casual user to
use and maintain. What we are seeing here is a barrier that the non
technical user has towards learning technical things, and until it is
essential for there daily life to use an advanced operating system, they
won't.

How many vcrs are still blinking 12:00? ;-)
