I got around it like this: (installing a machine over NFS from a mounted CD on a 1.1.5.1 machine, the trick being the use of sym links to trick the installation procedure - I'm sure you could do something similar for the DOS diskette problem) First I attempted install by NFS and answered all the network questions to easily get my ethernet configured and up. (from a subshell of the installation program - hit ESC twice) horizon# mount nebula:/mnt /mnt2 (mount mount point of FreeBSD CD on nebula) horizon# mkdir -p /mnt/bindist horizon# cd /mnt/bindist now make a symbolic link for all the files but the distribution files themselves in /mnt/bindist and have them point to the actual files in /mnt2/bindist . Won't do explicit refs for the commands here, as this is from memory :-> horizon# ln -s /mnt2/bindist /mnt/bindist/bindist (kludgy, huh?) horizon# ln -s /mnt2/srcdist /mnt/bindist/srcdist etc, etc, for all packages you want to install. Apparently the CKSUMS and all that you linked above are only necessary for the bindist. I did the rest of the sets by just linking in the directory, as you see for srcdist above. horizon# exit (back to menu shell) now do an install via hard disk. It will drop you into a shell. exit the shell. Now pick a distribution and you're off and running. The _coolest_ part of this new-fangled install program is the seamlessness I observed when I realized I needed the DES stuff off the walnut creek archive. Finished the last set by disk (by NFS, by CDROM :->), and chose FTP mode. Selected a site and about 5 mins later the damn thing was completely installed. Hats off to a giant leap forward. j ______/ Jeff LaCoursiere FastLane Communications / Network security/services mail info@fastlane.net ___/ lacoursj@fastlane.net / __/ ASTLANE Communications!
