I built a virgin FreeBSD system, after adding the first user, exiting root, logging in as the new user, I couldn't vi. ANY FILE! It kept saying something like: log db: Invalid permission or some such nonsense. I tried adding the user by both the adduser.sh and just vipw, but to no avail. (nuking the user inbetween each iteration). It did not matter where the home directory was, nor how many permissions the FILE was given. (yes, vi had executable flags turned on for everyone.) I put the user in every group, to see if that would shake the 'permission' problem. (wheel, staff, root.. nada) The strange (and perhaps totally unrelated) thing is that the first installation of FreeBSD, I ftp'ed the bindist. This installation I built from the CD Rom. Coincidence??? Ideas? Anyone?
