My machine is a HP Vectra 486/SX. >FreeBSD 1.x installed (almost) fine. Well, I've worked around this: altho the FreeBSD installation floppy doesn't let one drop to shell, the _NetBSD_ one does. So, I boot with the NetBSD installation, drop to shell, mount the FreeBSD-newfs'd h/d, ifconfig, and ftp'ed sysinstall onto the hard disk in /stand. Reboot, and voila! Provided, of course, that you have a compatible network card, and can somehow get sysinstall from the floppy to an ftp'able location. I already have a working 2.0 system, so the floppy part is no problem.
