In your original article you stated that OS/2 also experienced the same
behavior, and given the sad state of PC hardware, I'm am almost positive
it's NOT a FreeBSD problem but a hardware problem, especially considering
that you said your machine works when the cache is disabled.

The reason it worked in the past is because some of the fixes in FreeBSD
caused the hardware bug to not manifest itself, but now that the VM system
has changed it is now ticking the hardware bug.
