Well, I have another question that I couldn't find in a FAQ (and
I'm afraid it's something of a newbie question):
What is a simple way to "connect" two computers, with a modem, for example.
Pardon the term 'connect': I use it because I realize there are several
ways. I tried a connection via tip, but to no avail. I may have more luck
if I give it another shot (I have Nemeth's (et al.) _Unix System
Administration Handbook_, and it's very helpful). What I would
really like to able to do is to use FTP/telnet over the modem
connection. I frequently use a SLIP connection to my universities
dialin service, but I just can't figure out how to do it with two, well,
"normal" computers.
I would appreciate some suggestions what to do, or even where to
start fiddling. I have some vague idea of the function of the
relevant files in /etc, but I guess my knowledge isn't sufficient.
Maybe all I need to know is how to pick the IP numbers properly so
that the two machines can talk to each other? But I would guess there's
a little more to it ;)
