Summary: If you don't mind being a guinea pig in exchange for possibly higher performance, get the EISA 3C579 NIC. If you do mind, and are satisfied with performance that's only slightly less than theoretical maximum anyway, get an SMC Elite 16 Ultra. It's an ISA card, but it should work just fine in your EISA box. >2) What SCSI adapter for same EISA box is the best as far as most stable? Buslogic Bt747c, no question. I use them in most of my EISA machines here (the older ones use 1742s still, but those are hard to find). >3) I've got an ATI Mach32 w/ 2MB of VRAM. Does that perform well in X or would >something else (priced comparably) be a better choice? That should be fine. You might want to go to one of the new 64 bit wonders at some point, but the Mach32 isn't a bad X server platform at all. I've used it. >PS: What are the specs for wcarchive's machine? Just curious as to what it wasexactly... P5-90 ASUS dual-Pentium socket motherboard (3V/5V) with 192MB of memory, 1 Bt747c, 1 Bt946c and 1 AHA1742 disk controller. Compex DC21040 PCI ethernet card. Lots of SCSI disks. :-) Jordan
