The fact that someone has been writing for a long time does not
guarantee that anything he/she says is worth saying.
Take Jerry Pournelle, one of the most widely read columnists (I gather).
Apart from his (as he admits himself, subjective) reviews, which I find
[found, I have canceled my subscription to Byte since] very interesting,
he sometimes expresses views (esp. on politics) which IMHO are completely 
anachronistic, if not outright stupid, or, even worse, ignorant.

True. It's just that one has one's limits.
Perhaps I've been reading alt.peeves too much.
