My machine is a DEC Celebris 590 which is a Pentium 90 system. There are 2 E-IDE controllers in it with the second controller disabled. I have installed FreeBSD 2.0 on the system but when I try to boot, I get the message 'READ ERROR'. If I put the disk in a 486 machine, I can boot off of the disk. One suggestion which I was given was to put a DOS partion on the disk and use the DOS boot record. After installing BSD, I installed DOS and was able to boot off of the DOS partion. After changing the active partion to be the BSD partion, I would get 'NO OPERATING SYSTEM'. Any other ideas? Even a method to modify the boot floppy to allow it to force the boot from the hard drive.
