I think only one internal PPP connection is possible using proxy ARP (see below),
 but I might be wrong.

You should be able to configure the routing on the BSD machine to forward
packets from the non-Internet machine without using PPP.  You'll also need
to set up proxy ARP on the BSD machine to enable "sharing the same IP address."
The medium (Ethernet or serial) shouldn't matter.

But why not get a Class-C?  I got a full class-C for free just by asking.  Or
maybe your provider would give you a class-C subnet.  Have you asked?
