This is commonly known as the Julius Caesar effect.  Remember the line "For
Brutus is an honourable man" which gets repeated several times by Cassius. 
The more often it gets repeated, the less the crowd believe it until finally
they turn against Brutus.

(What's Infoworld, BTW?  Sounds to me like it's a cross between Nintendo
Monthly for editorial impact and Computer Shopper for technical analysis)
