There are plenty of other similar things to get excited about. There are at least three other major operating systems available for free (NetBSD, FreeBSD, Mach w/ Lites server) the first two of which have a very similar software base, similar features, and similar stability ( Lites is still in early stages of development). Linux has some nicer stuff (doom port, and its better at running SCO programs), and the BSDs have some nice stuff (ports to tons of computers, more mature code base). Also, WABI is not a Linux thing, it is a Sun thing, WINE is the free unix thing. WINE is not even a Linux centric project, currently it supports NetBSD and FreeBSD as well (and I'm sure that as soon as Lites is more stable it will be supported as well). None of these projects are going to make a huge dent in corporate sales of any operating systems (I can tell you with almost complete assurance that no one over at Microsoft is shaking in their boots because of any of these projects. In fact while I worked at Microsoft a number of people talked about all of the above systems as interesting projects). alex
