It just has a NE2000 ('twas SMC before), a VGA card (nothing fancy), some RAM and a serial port for the mouse (ok, I've cheated, there is also a monitor and a keyboard :_) ) I've installed the netboot rom and set up my servers to honor the bootp request. The rom comes up, reads it's config and loads a special kernel. I just mounted / from a FR2.0 machine (I know that this won't work, but I'll fix it when the problem is gone). The "swap" file resides on /var/swap[/swap.x.y.z.a]. I found out, that I have to create it by hand, else the rom won't load the kernel. I still don't know if the file must have special contents or special length... As I said before, the kernel loads ok and shows that he has mounted / and /swap with nfs. Then things turn out bad :-( The boot screen looks like: ... npx0 on motherboard NFS SWAP: 194.39.213.1:/var/swap using 4096 kbyte. # ok, a little small, but just testing NFS ROOT: 194.39.213.1:/ vnode_pager_input: I/O read error vm_fault: pager input (probably hardware) error, PID 1 failure exec /sbin/init: error 8 exec /stand/sysinstall: error 8 init: not found panic: no init ... (now it reboots after 15 seconds) I've tryed many variations of the swap file. I've browsed through the kernel sources and added some printfs at the critical stages. The filesystem is mounted properly, has rw access, the file is there and writable. I bet, I've made a simple and stupid mistake... can somebody point out my errors ???
