And I *did* read a whole : mess of FAQage before going anywhere near the boot disk. Just as an alter opinion: Machine: pentium 66 (intel) Version 10 BIOS 8MB memory NCR PCI SCSI controller (80x25) 1GB Fast SCSI-2 (two partitions DOS=500, BSD=500) DEC RRD42 SCSI CDROM Tseng Labs ET4000 (and later S3 964) DEC ether card In short all "bleeding edge" stuff you expect to break. I ordered the Walnut Creek CD, ran sysinstall had a few minor probs with things not being quite as doco said but basically had everything installed, new kernel built, boot easy installed and running in under an hour including mount/read/write dos partition and installing zsh vtwm. Got a piece of paper worked thru the XF86COnfig example and had X working in less than 30 minutes. Installed kermit, tcl/tk, Xview and a few others no probs. System has been running continuously either BSD or Windoze since Jan 5 with no failures or barfs in FreeBSD (and lots in Windoze, but I expect that).
