run vipw... this makes the updates to the shadow password file and
rebuilds databases. Yes there are scripts to do this automatically,
no I don't have one but people often post pointers to them (someone
recently said there's some Tcl/Tk stuff).

   I create a user using vipw, then create a home directory for him.  He can't 
   create files in his home directory, so I have to chmod 777 it.  I've assigned

create & *chown* home dir to his user..., then chmod 700 the home dir.
I did write a script do to this bit, and to copy across the .skel files
from /usr/share/...

   him to group 0-- "wheel", yet he can't su root (it says he's not in the

assign to a different group, and then add to the wheel group (vi /etc/group).
