I am using the Xfree distribution that came on the FreeBSD 2.0 distribution disk. I am using an Orchid farenheit VLB card which has an S3 805 chip on it. I have a Nanao 550iw monitor. I grabbed the mode lines from the documentation on the disk. the 640x480 and 800x600 modes work ok, but when I try to go to the 1024x768 mode, it doesn't work. The monitor just beeps and shuts down. I looked up the monitor timing in the manual and calculated the timing numbers manually, and I came up with the same numbers that were in the files on the disk. I can run this card/monitor combo in Microsoft Windows all the way up to 1280x1024 with no problems. I even ran the card in 1024x768 mode under Microsoft Windows and looked at the video signals with a scope. It was running exactly the way I was trying to run under X windows. Is there something else I need to set up to run in this mode? Do I have to change some options and recompile or relink the S3 server? Please send your responses via email.
