PPP was one of the easier things I've waded through in the past week. 
I had to start completely at the bottom, though, cuz I'd never looked at
pppd, chat, or its ilk before, and have a brandy-new modem to shovel the
right AT settings into as well.  But it's working nicely now, at least at
the link level.

The remaining problem is getting routed to a> run and b> tell the machine
the other end ONLY about hosts or subnets I want to tell it.  Hints in
this department appreciated; reading the routed source isn't quite doing
it for me, and gated is *huge*...
