No, that was not the problem. Actually, using pcvt is a great way to get full vt220/vt100 access. I recommend it to anyone willing to spend a small amount of time recompiling the kernel. As for the slip trouble, it had to do with the way our school dynamically allocates ip's. The slattach/kermit combo is very solid. Not to get around to automating it.
