Root directory is a directory under: pub/386BSD/386bsd-0.1/ X386 is not a standard distribution piece yet, but is under the ports directory: pub/386BSD/ports-0.1/ (may be a little off on the actual name) as a lump. There is apparently a patched kernel in with it, as well as the kernel patches to patch your own.
