I had a similar problem. I had changed the port address on my Adaptec SCSI card from 0330h to 0334h. This caused problems because the kernel device only supports the card at 0330h. Some people here and on the bugs mailing list suggested reconfiguring the kernel [THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED], not being that brave, I changed the i/o address of the conflicting card and set my Adaptec card back to 0330h.
