Over a slow link, you can definitely tell the difference in performance between Linux and a commerical UNIX (like SunOS 4.1.3). The Sun responds quickly whereas the Linux box sometimes goes into convulsions before I get a telnet prompt. In the local area, I don't notice much of a difference in performance. Stability wise, it's also not up to commercial standards. Every few weeks, the puppy takes a dive. Realize that a lot of this may be fixed (or getting there) in 1.1.8X. I don't know about the *BSDs, but I thought you should have this data point. -Clint
