[stuff deleted] The problem isn't with your hardware... if the drive is SCSI (which it is), it is dealt with by the scsi drivers. I would think that either /dev/cd0a doesn't exist, /dev/cd0a has bad major/minor numbers or the kernel isn't configured with device cd0. Try getting a shell and typing cd /dev sh ./MAKEDEV cd0 -- Brian <brian@awfulhak.demon.co.uk> Don't _EVER_ lose your sense of humour....
