I believe he was talking about replacing the string "386bsd" with the string "bsd" in the existing group heirarchy. Other than the '.misc' group, the existing heirarchy is not there for "generic" discussion. The group comp.unix.bsd is for *UNIX* derived bsd variants. The OS's 386BSD, FreeBSD, and NetBSD are *NOT* *UNIX* derived. This is tantamount to asking alt.fan.lawrence-welk posters to use the perfectly adequate rec.music.afro-latin group because after all, they are just discussing music. You could also argue for the elimination of comp.unix.xenix.sco and its replacement by comp.unix.xenix.ms, since all Xenix licenses derive from Microsoft Xenix, and Microsoft owns chunks of SCO anyway. Likewise, we could rename uunet.* to ms.* because of the recent purchase of shares in UUNET by Microsoft. Many *.religion.* groups come to mind as being similar. Perhaps the group comp.os.bsd.misc would be more a more appropriate name... as has been suggested before.
