Seagate is the only company that has : really jumped into the 1-2 gig market with a really fast drive at a decent : price. Seagate is a latecomer to big drives! We have dozens (hundreds?) of large Micropolis SCSI and ESDI drives from 760MB to 2GB that are very reliable. Occasionally an old one does give out, but not often. My home PC has a six year old Micropolis 760 MB ESDI drive and has never hiccuped! I ordered the PC (386-33) from Gateway2000 with a "CDC-Wren" drive. Unfortunately, CDC had been bought by Seagate and they had started using cheapo parts on the "Wren", ruining what used to be a great drive. It was worthless and squealed to boot! I shipped it back and bought the Micropolis. Now they offer a five year warranty on every drive and go up to 9 GB and 8.0 ms! And on a $/MB basis I doubt they can be beat by any *reliable* drive.
