Summary: Problems with hard errors on fd0
Keywords: floppy drive

I tried to install FreeBSD off the Walnut Creek cdrom, when my system booted it
would load the kernel off the floppy then when it changes root device to
/dev/fd0 it shows the following error:

fd0c hard error reading fsbn 16 of 16-31 (ST0 40 <abnrml> ST1 1 <no_asm> ST0 0
cyl 0 hd 0 sec 17
panic : can not mount root.

I then swapped the 3 1/2 floppy drive for a 5 1/4 (after trying several
floppies, formats and a boot disk that was written on another pc) and
everything works fine.

After installation I reinstalled the 3 1/2 floppy drive and when I tried to mount
a disk it displayed a hard error, the 5 1/4 does not display an error.

Is there a problem with my 3 1/2 floppy drive (its only 3 months old)?

Has anyone experienced this problem?
