BUT, I boot from a 3.5in disk, and wanted to be able to use the full 1.44 Meg. I should have mentioned this in my original post, but I didn't - sorry. Someone mentioned cat-ing fdboot and bootfd to the device, but I can't remember if it was the raw or block device, or what partition. Before anyone jumps on me about not reading the previous posts our server has lost everything prior to about two weeks ago.
