Ok. I've given up trying to install FreeBSD 2.0 via my 3c509 card... I still couldn't ping after ifconfig'ing. One suggestion to use "link2" on the command line for UTP still didn't work. So, I pulled all my 3c509's and installed a trusty WD8013 (I/O 300, IRQ 10). Unfortunately, I get no further in the installation. Instead of getting a nice "Host is down" message while pinging, the kernel panics with: ---begin output Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault virtual address = 0xf055c1fa fault code = supervisor write, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8:0xf018701d code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 current process = Idle interrupt mask = net tty panic: page fault syncing disks... Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault virtual address = 0x10 fault code = supervisor read, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8:0xf01239c7 code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 current process = Idle interrupt mask = net tty panic: page fault Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort --> Press a key on the console to reboot <-- Rebooting... ---end output Yeargh! It seems as if I can't get it to ifconfig the card properly. I've tried the following variations, to no avail: card I/O IRQ ifconfig result of "ping 136.159.125.1" flags 3c509 300 10 -none- "Host is down" 300 10 link2 "Host is down" 300 10 link1 "Host is down" 300 10 link0 "Host is down" WD8013 300 10 -none- panic 300 5 -none- panic 300 5 link2 panic 280 10 link2 panic At this point, I was frustrated and gave up. I've dd'd my kernel and cpio distributions onto new media, with no different results. I've done hardware resets inbetween, to see if the card was giving me trouble. As before, all the configurations work fine from Linux. Help! One free dinner at Denny's for whoever figures out what I need to do next. --Gordon -- Gordon Matzigkeit | STOP MAKING SENSE, STOP MAKING SENSE gord@enci.ucalgary.ca | STOP MAKING SENSE, MAKING SENSE
