"In the early days" I ran 386 BSD 0.1 on my box. Then the [Net/Free]BSD thing happenned. Linux was an uncontrolled mess. I deleted *nix from my box and vowed never to return. I would stick to Sun boxes, which was my job. Where I work we have a linux box connecting us to the net. And I still read the *bsd and linux groups on USENET. You guys at *BSD _had_ a great opportunity to see a BSD running on the world's zillion Intel-based PCs. But your infighting and refusal to merge has seen people go to the anarchic linux platform. Sorry, that hurts I know, but it's the truth. You've missed your chance. You can continue to develop all you like, and continue to flame one another, and linux, forever. But you'll never have anymore than a token following due to your pride and refusal to built a common product. Technically speaking, *BSD is better due to it's original code base. Linux however is catching up. Just like the Mac/[Intel+DOS], OS2/Windows, SunOS/Solaris, Sun/DEC battles the technically superior product has failed [again]. Just like DOS, Linux is better, even it it's only due to the incredibly large installed user base. sigh. Michael... -- All IMHO. Flames unwelcomed.
