I am having a very similar problem with my SMC ethernet card. I see
that FreeBSD sees the card while it is booting up, but whenever I do
anything that tries to access the card I get nothing but timeouts. The
card is setup as 0x280, irq 3, mem 0xd8000. The machine is a 486SX
33MHz, with 16MB of RAM, a 200MB hard drive and a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive.
The Mitsumi drive is currently at 0x300, irq 10, which is the default.

Any help, suggestions, configs, etc would be much appreciated. I am
seeing traffic (according to the RX light on the card).

I need to get this resolved soon, since I'm changing jobs in about 10
days.

TIA,

Bill
