I have a Mac IIci with a smallish disk, and a NetBSD (386) box with a
_big_ one. Does anyone know of an AppleTalk (Ethertalk) server for
BSD (or _any_ Unix, if it's in source form), or an NFS client for
Mac System 7?

I'd rather pay as little as possible :-), but commercial software
isn't beyond the realms of possibility. FTP back and forth is
starting to grind me down!

My news service is pretty flakey, so I'd prefer mail replies, but I
will summarise (whether there is interest or not!). If there's
enough interest, I may even be pushed to writing an Ethertalk server
myself (if I can find the time, energy and enthusiasm -- Oh, and
pay the grocery bill!).
