In the kernel config file there are a few lines at the bottom called psuedo-devices. You need to add a line: psuedo-device ppp X where X is the number of ppp devices you want to add... On my home system, I only added 2 ppp devices - 1 for use by the modem & a second for my other home system to experiment with...
