I am not claiming this. I am saying that this is in fact what is happening. Actually the reason, I discovered, that this is happening is that I gave it gid zero in /etc/password. This is what I thought was meant by putting it in the wheel group. Now I know I need to make its gid something else and simply list the user under wheel in /etc/groups.
