For me "ports" is the much simpler method, because I have my "/usr/ports" automatically updated. If I ever want to install a new version, I just say "make", and the sources will be got via FTP and the compilation done. |> I don't see a need in having pre-built binaries of all the small utilites, |> when they usually compile out of the box. Seems we agree on this ... Just that I spend even less time with FreeBSD. I can SUP the ports hierarchy (could as well get updates via a mail list) and the actual transfer of the sources is done from within the source file ... Has surprised quite a number of Linux adicts recently ... :) Regards, STefan -- Stefan Esser Internet: <se@ZPR.Uni-Koeln.DE> Zentrum fuer Paralleles Rechnen Tel: +49 221 4706019 Universitaet zu Koeln FAX: +49 221 4705160 Weyertal 80 50931 Koeln
